A good time ago I hired a positivity coach for a number of sessions to help with my, at the time, tendency to totally catastrophize about all of the issues in my life. This values sort exercise was by far the most useful take away.

I think many people go through life without really introspecting on what drives them to get through the day, and this is a very effective exercise to narrow what matters down quickly.

My own values are available here. If this exercise was useful to you, I invite you to draft your own values page.

To do so, for each of your five values, ask:

  • What does this value mean to me?
  • How do I embrace these values?
  • Who inspires me to live these values?
  • What helps me embody these values?
